Doug Allen, Building Division Chairman, Dan Byers, Utility Division Chairman, and Ralph Stout, Subcontractor/Specialty Division Chairman, announce the annual BUSS Divisions meeting to be held at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf & Resort Spa, Savannah, Ga., July 17-20, 2008. We’ll have a meeting that promises to be good for you business and a lot of fun. Our theme this year is “Staying Alive in the Ever-changing Green Techno Construction Industry”.
Friday morning will include a spouse/guest brunch. A cocktail and light hors d’oeuvres reception will be held Friday evening. And, a great Saturday night dinner/dance is planned for the adults. Since it’s time to relax, dress is casual for all events.
You should register online here for the meeting and/or golf. Make room reservations online through the hotel. A block of rooms are reserved at The Westin. The room block expires June 10, 2008 and this is the absolute deadline for the block of rooms reserved for this meeting. Remember, convention registration and hotel registration are seperate.

BUSS Meeting Highlights
DIVISION BREAKOUT SESSIONS
Building Division Meeting – Chairman Doug Allen will discuss Division activities and goals and how we are faring with a number of issues, including the infrastructure crisis in both states, alternative bidding methods being used by owners, minority participation, increasing risks being put on the construction industry by owners/designers, online CAGC services and CAGC membership retention/recruitment efforts. Vice Chair Tim Kennedy will discuss future Division meetings and seek member input.
CAGC staff will discuss major legislative issues, including in North Carolina the infrastructure crisis and numerous challenges on the public bidding process. In South Carolina, two key issues will involve immigration reform and the status of changes to the SC procurement code. We will also address the latest on other construction industry developments such as ConsensusDocs and union activity in the Carolinas.
Utility Division Meeting - Chairman Dan Byers of Good Water, Inc. out of Greenville, SC, and Vice Chairman John Harris of James E. Harris Construction, Inc. out of Huntersville, NC, will host presentations/discussions on issues and initiatives that affect the Carolinas’ utility construction industry and your bottom line. Topics include: owner/engineer relations; North and South Carolina’s one call programs; project funding; fair contract documents; spiraling material costs; our legislative agenda and your issues/concerns.
Subcontractor/Specialty Contractor Division Meeting – Chairman Ralph Stout will conduct an open forum for subcontractors. Subjects to be discussed will include recent developments with the GC/Subcontractor Relations events, an update on legislative issues of interest to Specialty contractors and a discussion about improving involvement of the Division with the Carolinas Construction Education and Research Foundation.
